Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Zova handles information when you use our messaging app. It covers your account, private and group conversations, contacts, community posts, shared media and locations, voice messages, notifications, and account settings.

By using Zova, you agree to this policy. Please also read our Terms and Conditions.

02

Information We Collect

The information we process depends on how you use Zova.

Account and communication information

  • Account identifiers and the profile information you provide.
  • Contact details, connections, and group membership needed for communication features.
  • Messages, community posts, photos, files, and other media you choose to share.
  • Location information when you choose to send a location.
  • Authentication and session details used for registration, sign-in, and account recovery.

Device and technical information

  • Device identifiers, device type, and operating system information.
  • Performance information, error reports, and crash logs.
  • IP addresses and information used to detect security threats.
  • Push tokens and device registration details needed to deliver notifications.

Usage information

We may process information about feature use and interactions to understand performance, fix problems, and improve the service.

03

Message Content and Reports

Zova processes the messages and media you send to deliver and synchronize conversations. Message edits and related delivery information may be stored to keep conversations up to date.

If you report content, we may retain message identifiers and the information you submit so that abuse can be reviewed.

The recipients and groups you choose can access what you share with them, including messages, profile details, attachments, voice messages, and locations. Recipients may save, copy, or forward that content. Group membership and permissions affect access to group content. Community posts are available according to the audience and visibility settings for those posts.

04

Device Permissions and Notifications

Zova may request access to your camera and photo library to capture, attach, or save media; your microphone to record voice messages; and your location when you choose to share it. You can decline these permissions, although the related features may then be unavailable.

Push notifications use Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging. These providers process push tokens and notification delivery information. Depending on your app and device settings, conversation details may appear in notification previews or on your lock screen.

Voice-message playback may continue in the background. Playback does not give the app permission to record your microphone in the background. Manage permissions and notification previews through your device settings.

05

Account Security

Protect your device, account credentials, and recovery information. Account services process authentication requests to support sign-in and recovery.

Never include passwords, recovery phrases, or other account secrets in an email or support request.

06

How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Operate and maintain Zova and its account services.
  • Deliver conversations, community posts, media, and notifications.
  • Improve reliability, performance, and the app experience.
  • Investigate abuse and prevent fraud or security threats.
  • Meet applicable legal requirements.
07

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data.

We may share information needed by service providers that support hosting, media storage, message delivery, push notifications, analytics, crash reporting, and security. These providers should process that information only for the service-related tasks they perform.

Content you share is also made available to your selected recipients or audience. Websites and independent services you choose to visit have their own privacy practices.

08

Account Deletion and Data Retention

To delete your account, open Me > Settings > Delete Account and complete the confirmation steps. Deletion disables account access, invalidates device sessions, and clears local account storage on the device used for deletion. Removing the app from your device does not delete your account.

Deleting an account does not automatically remove every record from service storage. Account and deletion records, message edits, abuse reports, and previously shared content may remain. Deletion also does not remove copies that recipients have saved or content stored outside Zova.

We may keep information needed to provide the service, meet legal requirements, handle disputes, or protect service security. Retention depends on the information and the reason it is still needed.

For details about a retained record or to request deletion of remaining personal information, email develop@inter-digital.org. Do not send account credentials or recovery information.

09

Security Measures

We use technical safeguards intended to protect information, including authenticated access and protections for network communications. Delivery and synchronization also require the service to process message-related metadata.

No service can guarantee complete security. Keep your device and account details secure, and contact develop@inter-digital.org if you believe someone has gained unauthorized access.

10

Your Rights and Controls

Depending on the laws that apply to you, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal information. You can also manage the privacy controls available in the app.

Camera, microphone, photo-library, and location access can be revoked in your device settings. Revoking access stops future use of that permission but does not remove content already sent.

Send privacy requests to develop@inter-digital.org without including account credentials or recovery information.

11

Third-Party Services

Zova relies on outside infrastructure and service providers. Providers working on our behalf are expected to use information for the tasks they perform and protect it consistently with this policy.

If you follow a link to an external website or use an independently operated service, its own privacy policy applies.

12

Children's Privacy

Zova is intended for people who meet the minimum legal age for using communication services where they live.

If you believe a child below that age has shared personal information with Zova, contact develop@inter-digital.org so that we can review the account and information.

13

Changes to This Policy

We may revise this policy as the service changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated. Continuing to use Zova after a revision means you accept the updated policy, subject to applicable law.

14

Contact

For privacy questions, access requests, or data-deletion requests, contact Zova support at develop@inter-digital.org.
